Why teach it?

Why teach it?

What's different about RoadSense?

The new strategy is targeted specifically at schools in high-crash areas. These have been identified using figures from the Ministry of Transport. They are: Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Taranaki, Manawatu-Wanganui, Hawkes Bay, Otago and Southland.

The new strategy also has a more practical, hands-on focus – we want kids to practice what they learn. International research shows that children absorb road safety messages best through real-life experience.

Under the new strategy, RoadSense facilitators will work more intensively with each school than they have in the past, for a period of two years. This will help make sure that road safety education gets embedded into the whole school community – including the parents.
