Guidelines and policies
One way of showing your school’s commitment to road safety to is have a policy statement with a set of accompanying procedures or guidelines.
You could also consider including road safety in Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) guidelines and/or risk management forms.
Among the issues that need to be considered are:
- who should deliver road safety education at the school, and how
- what safety procedure parents should follow when dropping off and picking up children
- how school patrol members are trained and supervised
- what guidelines are needed for children who cycle or scooter to school
- what guidelines are needed to cover the use of private cars for school trips
